Reasons to get involved
Research
The Parkinson’s Disease (PD) research data that was collected during the Indian Ocean Row 2018 is now being used to look at ways to improve the quality of life for people with PD through drug, dietary and exercise therapies. Any company involved with the Brain Waves challenge will therefore be helping to fund this ongoing research, a fantastic legacy for any corporate.
Schools
Through the online educational platform “Learn Live” we will be able to hold live video chats directly into classrooms with up to 30 schools at a time while out on the water. By using this free interactive service we hope to inspire future generations to create challenges of their own and to demonstrate that you can always do something to improve not only your own life, but also the lives of others.
A world first
How many firsts are there left? In a world where nearly everything has already been done, the Brain Waves challenge will take at least two world firsts. The first non-stop ocean row across the Indian Ocean from continent to continent and the first female to row 2 oceans in one year and, because 3 is the magic number, we are also vying for the fastest mixed crew speed record for the Atlantic!!
Awareness
The row will provide a fantastic opportunity to bridge the gap between the Parkinson’s and PTSD community with the general public. Everybody has heard of both conditions but it is very unlikely that you know much about what it is like to live with either PD or PTSD unless you have a personal connection to somebody who is. The row will appeal to a broad audience and allow us to raise awareness of both.
Media
Through past challenges we already have a good working relationship with the media and will be working hard to reach as wide an audience as possible via press, radio and TV. Last years Indian Ocean Row reached approximately 25,000,0000 worldwide and we would expect that figure to increase with the Brain Waves project by utilising contacts within the media built up over the past 5 years.
Social
Our on board satellite communications system allows us to send back daily blogs, vlogs, pictures and videos, all of which provide amazing and varied visual social media content. Not only we will connect you with our audience but you will have access to all of our content to distribute through your own social media channels to engage with your potential customers and provide positive brand association.
